Vendor Assessment Is Mandatory For Resellers on GeM

A GeM is a short form of one-stop government e-marketplace hosted by DGS&D where the common user goods and services can be procured.

GeM is a dynamic, self-sustaining, and easy-to-use portal for making procurement by Government officers. It has good Gem Customer Care and supports to resolve any issues pertaining to any deal. Vendor assessment is mandatory on the GeM portal for certain sellers.

After registration on the GeM portal, a seller needs to set up an OEM to claim ownership of the product and service they want to sell. Sellers are required to apply for vendor assessment for evaluating the credentials and quality standards.



After the assessment process of the vendors, sellers can list their brands on the GeM portal. Once their brand is listed, they can list their products under the appropriate categories and participate in the bids. Vendor Assessment is done to determine the quality of the products or services. The assessment will be put into GeM ratings and the offerings will then be designated verified. It is a filterable parameter that the buyer may utilize in their selection process. This will help the buyers to make informed decisions.

Currently, vendor assessment is done by the quality council of India. It is done online and the fee is paid directly to QCI. It is an important step for evaluating the credentials and quality standards of the seller. From August 2017, it is made mandatory to get vendor assessment of the company’s profile and the products that are registered on GeM for sale. Original equipment manufacturers viz. manufacturing unit, assembling the unit, and third party manufacturer with or without a brand name can apply for vendor assessment. Also, manufacturers who are based outside India can also become OEM on the GeM portal if they are registered with foreign subsidiary companies in India.

The vendor assessment validity is for 3 years and is done through the GeM portal. Some of the important points of vendor assessment include – the assessment is valid for 3 years, however, the vendor can choose to have assessment even before the expiry date. The government fee for vendor assessment on the GeM portal is INR 11,200 excluding GST. All those entities that possess certificates are exempted from vendor assessment on GeM.
